Server Migration to Cloud Project
An insurance consulting firm with 125 employee and branch offices worldwide was looking to streamline its server infrastructure and eliminate the high cost of a traditional data center. Multiple file and application servers spread across corporate headquarters, branch offices and a colocation facility were to be consolidated. Security and compliance were major concerns due to the firm’s handling of sensitive information, and the company was also looking to eliminate the support headaches of dealing with multiple vendors. Z-TECH helped choose among three possible cloud-based vendors to host the firm's servers, settling on Microsoft’s Azure and Office 365 solutions. Seven server functions and multiple VPN links were transitioned in phases with minimal impact on day-to-day operations. Z-TECH’s partnership with Microsoft allows us to act as a single point of contact for more responsive support to all IT requests. Ultimately, the client has reduced its annual hosting costs while improving performance and uptime.
Infrastructure Refesh and Virtualization Project
A Massachusetts state agency needed to upgrade from 15-year old servers, data storage, network switches and software to supported solutions with improved fault tolerance. Z-TECH worked with the agency's internal IT team to refine a draft network design, utilizing the client’s preferred equipment vendors as well as government purchasing channels where appropriate. We brought to the table our expertise in modern virtualization platforms and experience with complex migrations; in this case it was necessary to upgrade the network operating system and email servers in two phases due to the age of the existing software. Our consultants were able to resolve a number of pre-existing networking issues before starting the migration, ensuring a smooth process. Z-TECH’s flexibility enabled us to execute the project on a schedule that best met the client’s operational needs. We also delivered complete documentation and training to empower the internal IT team to support the new solution post-delivery. Z-TECH’s status as a minority-owned company on the State SDO list facilitated the vendor selection process.
IT Relocation Project
We handled all IT aspects of this medical device manufacturer's relocation to new office and laboratory space. An existing pain point in this company’s infrastructure was the locally hosted email server. We designed the project to migrate email to the Office 365 cloud ahead of the physical move, eliminating communications downtime during the relocation. We worked with the new landlord and its contractors to ensure the site’s network layout would meet the client’s requirements. Z-TECH’s in-depth knowledge of local ISPs was critical in providing high-speed Internet access when the client’s planned ISP installation fell through at the last minute. As a result, the new site was online on schedule. Z-TECH provided reinforced post-move support to ensure that staff could resume work without IT-related concerns.
